What are prefolds?
Prefolds are several layers of fabric sewn together into one basic rectangle. There are several extra layers sewn in down the center of the rectangle, to add absorbency where it's needed once the diaper has been folded around baby. These prefolds by Bummis are gorgeous, thick diapers – unbelievably soft and thirsty. They are made of 4 wonderfully thick and thirsty layers of unbleached 100% certified organic cotton, with 8 layers sewn together down the center panel!

They come in a gorgeous unbleached colour and are incredibly soft. Each 6/pack comes in an organic cotton carry bag! Premium-sized prefolds fit babies from 20 lbs to 40 lbs. Why would I choose to use prefolds to diaper my baby? Prefolds are generally the most economical way of diapering your baby. They are usually much cheaper than other types of cloth diaper, and are vastly cheaper than using disposables. When a highly absorbent prefold is coupled with a great fitting diaper cover (such as a Super Whisper Wrap), then you end up with a very effective cloth diapering system.

How many prefolds do I need?
Prefolds will need to be changed more frequently than pocket diapers and other "stay-dry" type diapers. When a prefold gets wet, it stays wet, and should be changed in order to prevent diaper rash. Newborns will typically require about 12-15 diaper changes per day. If you are planning to exclusively use prefolds with covers, then we would suggest having 2 or 3 dozen infant prefolds on hand. When your baby gets older, less diaper changes are required. We recommend having about 2 dozen premium-sized prefolds for older babies.

I've heard that prefolds are incredibly versatile. What can you do with a prefold?

• Fold your prefold in thirds and lay it inside a diaper cover
• For a snug fit, fold your prefold around your baby, secure with a Snappi (or pins) and finish with a diaper cover
• Stuff your prefold into a pocket diaper for added absorbency
• When your children have grown out of them, you can sell them, donate them, or use them as terrific cleaning rags around the house!

Prefolds must be pre-washed and dried 3-5 times before using in order to remove the natural oils and waxes. They will then quilt up and become soft and absorbent. Expect a shrinkage rate of about 22-25%.
